Los Angeles-based artist zzzahara is back with their latest single, ‘It Didn’t Mean Nothing‘, the opening track from their upcoming album Spiral Your Way Out. The album, set to release on January 10th via Lex Records, promises an evolution from last year’s Tender, turning heartbreak and chaos into a tapestry of jangly riffs, vulnerable lyrics, and synth-heavy textures.
The track introduces a new level of confessional storytelling for zzzahara as they lament, “I was so mad I couldn’t think / All I did was lay in bed and scream.” Produced by Jorge Elbrecht (who’s worked with Japanese Breakfast and Sky Ferreira), the song emerged from an almost instinctive collaboration. “Jorge had the drum pattern and guitar already prepared,” zzzahara explains. “I felt like I knew what I had to say when I started writing lyrics. Making music with Jorge felt like the escape I needed. We pulled that track together in just under four hours. It was magical. For the first time, it felt like I met someone who worked as fast as I did.”
If It Didn’t Mean Nothing is any indication, Spiral Your Way Out is shaping up to be an emotional deep dive. After a breakup left them “spiraling,” zzzahara embraced the chaos of life, leaning into their own unpredictable nature. “My whole life, all I’ve known is destruction—having a dysfunctional family, trying to figure out where I lie in this world,” they share. “It’s one big fucking mystery… but working on not giving a fuck has been my vibe recently. Like, I could spiral out of control, but that’s just who I am.”
This unapologetic embrace of their identity and experiences is at the heart of the album, integrating confessional lyrics with dreamy instrumentation and a heavy dose of that signature bedroom-pop-meets-indie-gaze sound.
