Well, maybe not legally. But Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves, the dream team who starred in Dracula, Destination Wedding and A Scanner Darkly together, still refer to each other as “husband and wife” — and it’s frickin’ adorable.
This “marriage” started on the Dracula set when director Francis Ford Coppola hired a real Romanian priest for their wedding scene. Winona, now 52, previously revealed that the ceremony was legit in the eyes of the church, and Keanu backs it up, saying in an Esquire interview that they’re “married under the eyes of God.”
Despite both stars being in relationships — Winona with Scott Mackinlay Hahn and Keanu with Alexandra Grant — they’ve kept their beautiful connection alive. Winona recently shared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that they text regularly, always signing off as “husband” and “wife.” For example, on Keanu’s birthday, Winona sends a message like, “Happy birthday, my husband!” signed off with “Noni” (her nickname). Keanu then responds with, “Hey, wife! Love you, KR 57,”.
This isn’t the first time Winona’s mentioned their on-set marriage. Back in 2018, she said she genuinely thinks they’re married in real life, recalling the wedding scene and joking, “I swear to god, I think we’re married in real life.”
Honestly, is there a more wholesome friendship in Hollywood? We love them, and we’re here for it. We must protect them at all costs.
