After taking the PC world by storm last year, 8-Bit Adventures 2 is finally coming to consoles on the 16th of October, 2024. Xbox, PlayStation (PS4 & PS5), and Nintendo Switch players will now have the chance to experience the game that has PC players raving. And if you’re eager to jump in, demos for Xbox and Switch are already live, with PlayStation’s demo on the way.
Developed by Australian indie creator Joshua Hallaran and his team at Critical Games, 8-Bit Adventures 2 is a love letter to classic JRPGs inspired by heavy hitters like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy X, and MOTHER 3. Describing the experience as “Story Rich, Nostalgia Perfected,” Hallaran has crafted an adventure that combines the best of retro aesthetics with modern storytelling and gameplay.
Expect strategic, turn-based combat that prioritises character skills, party swapping, and powerful finishing moves like Team Attacks and Omega Bursts. And unlike many old-school RPGs, there’s no grinding or random encounters. Enemies are visible, so you can choose when to fight!
Set in a vibrant, pixel-perfect world, 8-Bit Adventures 2 delivers 30-40 hours of gameplay packed with side quests, super boss battles, and an uplifting, story-driven adventure. And yes, you get to fly around in an airship!
When asked what he hopes players will take away from the game, Hallaran shared, “I wanted to capture the optimistic tone of Hironobu Sakaguchi’s work on Final Fantasy; uplifting the player and providing a sense of hope for the future, in spite of hardship or tragedy. I think we all need that!”
