Ambient electronic composer Bob Holroyd is back with his new two-part single, Hidden Voices Unveiled, featuring US-based Iranian artist Mahsa Vahdat. Known for his classic dance hit ‘African Drug,’ Holroyd’s latest work transcends genres, weaving together ambient minimalism and world music to deliver a powerful message about the plight of oppressed voices, particularly focusing on Afghan women.
Originally composed for a film that celebrated improvements in women’s lives in Afghanistan, this project took a sombre turn as the Taliban regained power, reversing many of the advances that were highlighted. Holroyd’s reimagined tracks now serve as a tribute to those silenced around the globe, including Hong Kong activists, the Rohingyas, and Uighurs. Holroyd states, “I want to expand the topic because, unfortunately, it’s not just Afghan women who are in this situation… the list is unfortunately pretty endless.”
Give Hidden Voices Unveiled a spin below and join Bob Holroyd on this journey of hope.
