New York-based indie rock trio ‘Hello Mary’ has just dropped their most audacious track yet, ‘0%‘. This song marks a significant evolution for the band, showcasing a bolder, heavier sound that dives into the depths of ’90s-inspired grunge and punk. Fans of the band will be thrilled to hear the raw, distorted guitars, pounding basslines, and thunderous drums that define ‘0%’.
The band—comprising Helena Straight, Stella Wave, and Mikaela Oppenheimer—has taken their music to new heights. “0% is one of our favourites to play live,” the band shares. “Our inspirations in the last year have broadened, and we feel like this song reflects that.” This sentiment is evident in the track’s dynamic composition and energetic delivery.
The origins of ‘0%’ lie in an impromptu jam session in the band’s practice space. Its live energy grabbed audiences, and it blossomed into a studio powerhouse. Notably, it features drummer/vocalist Wave’s first foray into scream vocals, adding a visceral edge to the track. Her impassioned cry of “I don’t know!” propels the song into a storm of cathartic noise, which then unexpectedly transitions into a playful breakdown featuring a vibraphone and triangle.
Hello Mary are known for their fantastic live performances. This year, they’ve been touring with Silversun Pickups, delivering their shows across the United States. Their tour will hit Brooklyn Steel on June 27 and wrap up in Glenside, PA, on June 29. Post-tour, the band will headline their own shows, with support from Julie on select dates, perform at Denver’s Underground Music Festival, and head to the UK for a series of festivals, including their first headliner at Brixton Windmill.
The band’s schedule also includes a performance at Las Vegas’ Best Friends Forever Fest in October. With such a packed itinerary, fans across the globe will have plenty of opportunities to experience Hello Mary live.
