Imogen Mason, known from Voka Gentle, is stepping into the solo spotlight with her new project, sm^sher. Now, she has released her debut single ‘beggars belief,’ ahead of her album pit of mine, out the 15th of November via Scrawl World Ltd. Listen to it below.
‘beggars belief’ is a piano-driven track, partially inspired by the late Mira Calix, capturing the confusion and anger of the unforeseen. With pit of mine, Mason blends pop structures with experimental soundscapes, using electronic beats, found sounds, and acoustic instruments.
The album was born out of a creative residency in New Mexico. Mason found inspiration among a community of artists, particularly older creatives who reignited her passion for playfulness and experimentation. This project marks Mason’s reclamation of self after caring for a loved one battling addiction—a cathartic exploration of grief, love, and resilience.
With pit of mine, Mason offers a raw, personal reflection through sound, making it a must-listen when it drops this November.
