Well, well, well, if it isn’t Monster Train, back to ruin our free time again. But this time, it’s bigger, badder, and apparently making Heaven and Hell work together like a divorced couple begrudgingly co-parenting the apocalypse. Monster Train 2 has been announced by Shiny Shoe and Devolver Digital’s label Big Fan, and if you’ve got any sense of self-preservation, you should probably brace yourself. It’s launching later this year on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch—but if patience isn’t your strong suit, there’s already a demo up on Steam. Go on, you know you want to.
For the uninitiated, Monster Train is a deck-building roguelike where you strategically battle through a vertical, three-floor hell train of carnage. It’s chaotic, it’s strategic, and it’s the kind of game that makes you say, “One more run,” at 2 AM before realising the sun’s coming up. Monster Train 2 is throwing even more into the mix, introducing a new enemy threat—the Titans—who are apparently so powerful that Heaven and Hell had to put their millennia-long beef aside just to stand a chance. That’s right. Angels and demons, besties now. What could possibly go wrong?
This time, instead of just fighting off heavenly forces, you’re actually venturing into the Abyss, which sounds absolutely lovely and not terrifying at all. Expect new environments, new enemies, and a whole new level of strategy as you fight to stop the Titans from wiping everything out. Noice.

New Clans, New Cards, And Even More Ways To Ruin Your Opponent’s Day
Shiny Shoe isn’t just recycling old tricks. They’re shuffling in a whole bunch of new mechanics that’ll force even veteran Monster Train fans to rethink their strategies. There are five brand-new playable Clans, each bringing their own spicy tactics to the battlefield. Hundreds of fresh and familiar cards are in the mix, along with some shiny new types to keep things interesting:
Room Cards: Buff up a single floor with game-changing effects.
Equipment Cards: Slap some ridiculous power-ups onto your units.
Neutral Cards: The wild cards that can completely flip a losing battle in your favour.
Oh, and unit abilities are now player-activated, so you’ll need to be even more tactical with when and how you unleash chaos. Basically, expect a lot of “Why didn’t I use that earlier?” moments.
More Features, More Chaos, More Reasons To Lose Sleep
If you’re the type who thrives on ridiculous challenge modes and leaderboard flexing, Monster Train 2 has got you covered. There’s an Endless Mode, Daily and Dimensional challenges, run mutators, and train customisation (because your hell-train should be both deadly and stylish). Basically, whether you’re a meticulous strategist or a button masher, there’s something here for you.
So, if you’re keen to hop aboard this absolute disaster of a locomotive, wishlist Monster Train 2 and give the demo a whirl on Steam, just don’t blame us when you look up from your screen and realise you’ve missed three meals and possibly a whole day.
Stay unruly.
