Swedish hard rock crew S.O.R.M have just released their latest single, Scream, and it’s a bit of a milestone for them. This is the first track written as a four-piece, with their new guitarist Patrik Sandström officially joining the mix.
The band isn’t afraid to get personal with this one. Scream talks about sexual expression and autonomy, pushing back against the idea that musicians (or anyone, really) need to censor themselves to avoid judgment. “We’re tired that us musicians can’t express ourselves with lyrics and music videos without being judged,” they explained. “With Scream, we stepped out of the box and wrote a song about sex and being in control of your sexual needs. Writing music is a form of art. And like an artist that paints a portrait of two naked people having sex without being judged: Why can’t we musicians express ourselves the way we want?”
A bit about S.O.R.M
If you’ve not had S.O.R.M on your radar yet, here’s the quick rundown: the band formed in 2017 and hit the ground running with their debut Hellraiser EP in 2020. That release set the tone – massive hooks and heavy riffs that made people take notice. Fast forward to 2023, and they dropped their first full-length album, Under My Skin, through Noble Demon. Featuring guest spots from Doug Blair (W.A.S.P.) and Nick Petrino (Dee Snider), it was a solid statement of who they are and what they’re bringing to the rock scene.
The line-up
S.O.R.M is:
- Micke Holm
- Johan Östman
- Robin Wernebratt
- Patrik Sandström
Patrik’s arrival seems to have injected fresh energy into the band, and Scream feels like a testament to that. It’s brash, a bit provocative, and unapologetically true to their style.
