This Friday, 25th October, Evergreen, the latest album from Nashville’s Soccer Mommy (aka Sophie Allison), is about to brighten up your life.
Ahead of its release, she has dropped a brand new single, ‘Abigail’. If you’re a fan of Stardew Valley, you’re going to love this because Abigail is a whimsical love letter to her (or our) pixelated purple-haired wife in the game.
The track premiered on Apple Music’s NMD today and follows in the footsteps of her earlier singles Driver, Lost, and M. Abigail is full of that hazy, Soccer Mommy charm we know and love. Still, there’s also something super personal and nostalgic about it, reminding us of how music (and even a little game romance) can tug at our heartstrings. You can check out the visualiser for the track and watch Allison trying to woo her true love below:
When describing her intention for Evergreen, Allison said she wanted the album to make you feel like “you’re laying outside, eyes closed, the sun is on you, and you can feel the warmth & flowers & trees,”. While Soccer Mommy’s past albums have dabbled in synths and experimental sounds, Evergreen takes things back to basics. Acoustic guitars, strings, and flutes bring these songs to life.
