WHO SHOT SCOTT, the project of Iraqi-born, New Zealand-raised artist and producer Zaidoon Nasir, has just announced his upcoming EP BRAIN (SIDE B), due out on February 21st, 2025.
If you’re new to WHO SHOT SCOTT, Nasir’s story is as fascinating as his music. After fleeing Iraq with his mum, he grew up in New Zealand, where he constantly felt “too Iraqi to be fully Kiwi, and too Kiwi to be fully Iraqi”.
To get it started, he has also shared the unruly new single, ‘THE DATA‘. Nasir says that it all began from a soul-sucking experience at a seminar hosted by a major social media company. “The entire event was focused on how artists could make themselves more marketable and mold their vision to fit a commercial narrative. It made me sick,” says Nasir. “‘THE DATA’ is my middle finger to that whole system.”
SIDE B is a follow-on from SIDE A that was released earlier this year, and it’s about those spikey feelings we keep bottled up. “This EP isn’t about throwaway tracks or B-sides; it’s about confronting the anger and intensity that also defines who I am. Every song has been carefully crafted to reflect the dual nature of the mind.” Nasir said.
The music video for THE DATA (directed by Connor Pritchard) is just as chaotic as the track itself, showing WHO SHOT SCOTT in full rampage mode. Watch it below:
