Alright, folks, Joe Keery—yeah, Steve from Stranger Things and Fargo fame—is stepping back into his Djo shoes and bringing us something big. He just dropped the details on The Crux, his highly-anticipated third album, out April 4th via AWAL. And guess what? We’ve got a new single to vibe to right now: Basic Being Basic.
With its funky Oberheim synths and a cheeky dig at modern posturing, the track slaps in all the right ways. Think falsetto refrains and lyrics that side-eye the Insta-perfect crowd. Keery himself calls it “a shot fired to anyone trying to be of the moment.” Savage. Catch him performing this banger live on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on January 28th.

A Global Tour
As if that wasn’t enough, Djo is gearing up for his first-ever worldwide tour: the Back On You Tour. He’s hitting Australia, New Zealand, North America, the UK, and Europe in 2025, and if you want in on this, you might wanna set a reminder. Tickets drop January 31st (or snag a presale on the 28th if you’re speedy). Oh, and he’s bringing Post Animal along for the ride. Yes, that’s his former psych-rock band, making this tour a reunion of sorts.
Australian fans can catch Djo at Laneway Festival this February (including a Perth stop on the 16th), while everyone else can start planning their road trips for dates across Portland, Brooklyn, Dublin, and beyond. Festival stops include Coachella, Hurricane, Southside, and Best Kept Secret. Basically, if you miss this, you’ll be kicking yourself.

What’s The Crux of it?
Keery is switching things up for this record. Unlike the synth-heavy, bedroom-produced vibes of Twenty Twenty and DECIDE, The Crux leans into lush guitars and dreamy 70s-inspired pop sounds. There’s loss, longing, and a sprinkle of gratitude. Oh, and it was partially crafted at NYC’s legendary Electric Lady Studios.
He’s weaving themes of connection, community, and resilience throughout the album, with contributions from family and friends. Plus, if you’re into concept albums, Keery’s got you covered: The Crux is framed as a metaphorical hotel where every guest is at a crossroads. Deep.

TL;DR
Joe Keery’s alter ego, Djo is back with The Crux, a guitar-heavy album out April 4th. New single, Basic Being Basic, is already bringing it, and he’s hitting the road in 2025 for a massive global tour with Post Animal. Mark your calendars, stream the single, and get ready for the Keery music era.
