PVRIS are back to remind everyone whose house this really is. And this time, they’ve brought some serious reinforcements. The band just dropped a brand-new, re-recorded version of their 2014 single My House, now featuring the unstoppable force that is Courtney LaPlante of Spiritbox.
Frontwoman Lyndsey Gunnulfsen (aka Lynn Gunn) called the whole thing “an honour”. In a beautifully full-circle moment, she revealed that Spiritbox actually took inspiration from White Noise, the album that originally gave us My House. Which means we’ve now entered the “inspired becomes the inspirer” pipeline, and it’s a hell of a thing to witness.
“It feels really healing and powerful to get to share this song with someone who I know has had much of that same experience and has been fighting that same battle just as long, if not longer,” Lynn explained. And if you’re wondering what battle she’s referring to, it’s the eternal struggle of women in the rock and alt scenes having to fight twice as hard to be taken seriously. Spoiler alert: it’s still happening.
Lynn’s right, though, things have improved in the last decade, but the fight is far from over. And honestly, if the industry won’t sit up and pay attention, then fine. PVRIS and Courtney LaPlante will just kick the damn door down instead.
Courtney LaPlante isn’t just a guest on this track. She’s a force. But let’s talk about Lynn for a second because, wow, her vocals have aged like a fine… well, something expensive and impressive. There’s a richness to them now, a weight that wasn’t there in 2014, and it makes this version hit so much harder. Pair that with Courtney’s razor-sharp intensity, and you’ve got a whole new beast of a track. They don’t just complement each other. They push each other to new heights. Darker, heavier, and, yeah, we’ll say it: better. It’s like watching two titans of the scene shake hands before absolutely obliterating everything in their path.
Lynn praised Courtney’s vision, precision, and sheer artistic integrity, calling her a trailblazer in a genre still overwhelmingly dominated by men. And honestly, we love to see women raising each other up instead of being forced into some tired, manufactured rivalry. More of this, please.
