Happy New Year, folks! We’ve officially made it through another lap around the sun, and while we can’t guarantee that 2025 will be drama-free, one thing is certain: it’s going to be an absolute cracker for gaming. From sequels we’ve been dying to get our hands on to brand-new adventures that took us by surprise, there’s plenty to get excited about.
January: Starting Strong
January wastes no time, kicking off the year with some heavy hitters. First up, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD swings onto the Nintendo Switch on January 16. This beloved platformer gets a shiny new makeover, bringing DK, Diddy (don’t go there), and their banana-fuelled adventures to modern audiences.
On January 17, Dynasty Warriors: Origins returns to flood your screen with endless enemies, letting you plough through entire armies in glorious next-gen detail. PS5, Xbox Series, and PC players get ready to shout “DIE, NASTY WARRIORS!” once again.
For mech fans, Synduality: Echo of Ada launches January 23 on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. This sci-fi title promises a visually stunning futuristic world with plenty of high-stakes mech battles.
Later in the month, Sniper Elite: Resistance (January 30) brings back the thrill of long-range takedowns. Whether you’re targeting foes from afar or sneaking up close, Rebellion’s latest entry is a satisfying addition to the series. Play it on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series.
Finally, Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector lands on January 31. This narrative-driven RPG from Jump Over the Age and Fellow Traveller offers a unique dice-driven system that’s perfect for players who love a deep, story-rich experience. It’s coming to all major platforms, including Game Pass.
February: Packed With Surprises
February doesn’t let up, bringing a mix of big-name franchises and fresh ideas. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 arrives on February 4, diving back into 14th-century Bohemia with intricate RPG mechanics and historically accurate details.
February 11 sees the release of Civilization 7, where you’ll guide your society through history, battling for dominance or cultural supremacy. It’s out on almost every platform, including Mac and Nintendo Switch.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows drops on February 14, letting you explore feudal Japan as both a ninja and a samurai. The dual protagonist system offers different perspectives, and the setting is a fan-favourite dream come true.
Prefer something quirky? Date Everything! launches the same day, letting you romance inanimate objects with hilarious results. Fully voice-acted and utterly unique, it’s coming to all major consoles and PC.
On February 18, Avowed and Lost Records: Bloom & Rage arrive. Avowed, an Obsidian RPG, immerses you in magical combat, while Lost Records delivers a heartfelt narrative with gorgeous visuals. Both are available on PC and Xbox Series, with Lost Records also heading to PS5.
Capping the month, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii sets sail on February 21, while Monster Hunter Wilds roars onto the scene on February 28, refining and expanding the beloved monster-hunting gameplay.
March: Full of Innovation
March kicks off with FragPunk on March 6, a fast-paced shooter blending card-based strategy with chaotic action. It’s followed by Split Fiction, a co-op adventure from Hazelight Studios combining VR absurdity with heartfelt storytelling.
Later in the month, cozy gamers can enjoy Tales of the Shire on March 25, a life sim set in the peaceful world of hobbits. If you’d rather face radioactive nightmares, Atomfall arrives on March 27, offering a grim survival experience in post-apocalyptic England. Lovely jubbly.
Wrapping up the month is Inzoi, hitting early access on March 28. It’s been dubbed a potential Sims-killer (oof, fighting talk), and this South Korean creation has some serious hype to live up to. We’re talking hyperrealistic characters and jaw-droppingly gorgeous environments. Fingers crossed it delivers!
