On today’s episode of ‘Why Are Men?’, Soulja Boy decided to come for Marlon Wayans’ son Kai in the most foul and uncalled-for way possible and got absolutely wrecked in return.
It all started when Wayans, a man who has actually been funny this century, appeared on 101.1 The Wiz in Cincinnati last month. Sporting a hat that said ‘Make America Laugh Again’ (because God knows they need it), he was asked about artists getting “cancelled” for performing at Trump’s inauguration. His response? “I mean, Soulja Boy, he been cancelled.”
And because Soulja Boy hasn’t been relevant since flip phones were a thing, he took it personally.
Soulja Boy, whose last cultural contribution was cranking that in 2007, lost his mind over the comment. He hopped on X (formerly Twitter, but still an absolute bin fire) to fire off a string of insults (which he has now dirty deleted), calling Wayans “a bitch” and “not funny.” Wayans, never one to back down, clapped back by bringing up the rapper’s long history of assault allegations because, oh yeah, that’s a thing.
Rather than gracefully accepting his L and moving on, Soulja Boy decided to quadruple down by unleashing a series of homophobic and transphobic rants. He came for Wayans’ son Kai, who came out as trans last year, slinging slurs and basically outing himself as a hateful oaf stuck in 2006. The posts were swiftly deleted, but not before the internet took receipts.
Marlon Wayans: Father of the Year, King of Comebacks
Instead of sinking to Soulja Boy’s level (because, really, who even has the time?), Wayans responded with the kind of roast that should be studied in comedy textbooks.
“You know you can get cancelled for transphobic slander like this… Fortunately for you that you don’t have a career.”
Followed by:
“Apparently, you BEEN cancelled for the last 17 years. Crank that was 2007. We waiting.”
Ouch. Somebody check on Soulja Boy’s ego. (Actually, don’t. Let it wither.)
The Bigger Picture
Marlon Wayans has been open about his journey as a parent. Going from confusion to fully embracing his son’s identity with nothing but love. In a world where trans kids are constantly under attack, having a parent publicly stand up for them like this? That matters.
“I just want my kids to be free—free in spirit, free in thought, free to be themselves,” he said last year. “If they can’t get that in a household with their father and their mother, how the fuck do I send them out into the world with that kind of confidence?”
That’s parenting done right. Meanwhile, Soulja Boy is out here reminding us all why his relevance expired along with Myspace.
Moral of the Story?
Marlon Wayans: A+ dad, elite comedian, undefeated in internet beefs.
Soulja Boy: Needs to sit in the corner and think about his life choices. Preferably forever.
Stay unruly.
