MJ Lenderman, the guitar wizard from North Carolina, is back with a bang. He’s just announced his new album Manning Fireworks, set to light up our lives on September 6th via ANTI- Records. And to keep us buzzing till then, he’s released the lead single, ‘She’s Leaving You,’ complete with a killer video. Watch it here.
Manning Fireworks is shaping up to be an instant classic. Following his breakthrough album Boat Songs in 2022 and last year’s live album And the Wind (Live and Loose!), MJ Lenderman is ready to show off a blend of wit, sadness, and rusty-wire guitar solos. His new single, ‘She’s Leaving You,’ is a half-sneering anthem about a bloke spiralling through a midlife crisis, cranking Clapton in a rented Ferrari on his way to Vegas. It’s the perfect shout-along for anyone who’s ever felt short-changed by their parents.
The video, directed by Whitmer Thomas and Clay Tatum, is a visual treat that’s been described as a mix of ‘Creed Thanksgiving Half-Time Show,’ ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit,’ and ‘Drop Dead Gorgeous.’ Yeah, it’s as wild as it sounds.
