Grab your mates, slap on your hazard suits, and get ready to scrub space mould with bullets. Mycopunk is here to clean house. Literally.
If you’ve ever looked at a mushroom and thought, “What if this was trying to kill me and also somehow union-busting” you’re already halfway to understanding Mycopunk. Developed by the deliciously unhinged folks at Pigeons at Play and published by loveable chaos merchants Devolver Digital, this co-op FPS throws you and your friends into a corporate hellscape full of mutant fungi, sci-fi weaponry and a suspiciously high risk of friendly fire.
Currently oozing its way onto Steam in Early Access sometime in 2025, Mycopunk has a free demo out now for the brave (or the heavily armed). Think Deep Rock Galactic got blackout drunk with Borderlands, and then someone spiked the punch with mould spores and capitalist dread.
Watch the reveal trailer below:
Welcome to the Gig Economy, Spore Edition
You play as the New Atlas Hazard Crew, a gang of scrapheap-bound robot rejects pulled into one last job by SAXON, a galaxy-spanning megacorp with vibes so shady they probably outsourced your dental records. Your task? Tidy up a planet-wide fungal outbreak that may or may not be “totally natural” (sure, Jan). The catch? SAXON definitely paid for the budget exterminators. You.
But don’t worry. While you might be underqualified and dangerously unpaid, you’re also extremely armed. You’ll get your hands on absurd sci-fi weapons and trick them out using a delightfully nerdy grid-based upgrade system, turning power tools into planet-shredders. Who needs OSHA compliance when you’ve got orbital buzzsaws?
Teamwork Makes the Myco Dream Work
Co-op isn’t just encouraged. It’s necessary. Sure, each robot’s a bit creaky on their own, but together? You’re a fungal-slaying Voltron. Build synergistic loadouts with your squad, wreak strategic havoc, or ignore all that and just launch your mate off a cliff for fun. Your call.
And when you’re not knee-deep in spores, you’ll be chilling aboard your orbital dropship, which is basically a floating sharehouse with guns. You can shoot hoops, chat lore, and hang out with Roachard Cox. A bug-shaped war vet who sounds exactly as untrustworthy as his name suggests.
Try Before You Fry
The Mycopunk demo is live on Steam, so if you’re keen to dive headfirst into some biohazard co-op chaos with your mates, now’s your chance to wishlist it and get blasting.
