In news that should surprise absolutely no one who’s ever played it, Pacific Drive has smashed through one million sales in its first year. That’s right. Ironwood Studios, a tiny team of fewer than 20 people, has gone and done the thing.
If you somehow missed it, Pacific Drive is that weirdly addictive, slightly terrifying, and deeply personal survival-driving game that basically asks, “What if your car was your only friend in a mysterious, supernatural hellscape?” And a whole lot of people have clearly said, “Yes, please.”
Since launching in February 2024, the game’s been racking up award nominations left, right, and centre, including four BAFTA longlist nods and a Game Developers Choice nomination for Best Debut. Oh, and James Wan (yes, the creator of The Conjuring and co-creator of Saw) has picked up the rights to turn it into a TV show. So, yeah, it’s kind of a big deal.
Ironwood’s been keeping the game alive with three free content updates and some snazzy cosmetic DLC, but the biggest update yet is on its way. We don’t have all the details yet, but given how much love has gone into this game so far, you just know it’s going to be good.
You can play Pacific Drive on PS5, Steam and Epic now.
If you haven’t jumped into Pacific Drive yet, now might be a good time. Just be warned: you’ll get emotionally attached to your car. It happens to the best of us.
