From Billie Eilish to Anthony Hopkins, neurodivergent celebrities are making their mark on the world. Let’s celebrate them and their contributions to their industries.
Neurodivergence is a term used to describe various neurological differences like Autism, ADHD, Tourette Syndrome, Dyspraxia, and more.
While neurodivergent people have always existed, they are often underrepresented and misunderstood. In recent years, however, neurodivergent celebrities have been speaking out and raising awareness about what it means to experience the world differently.
Here are just a few of the neurodivergent celebrities making waves in the world today:
Billie Eilish
Billie Eilish is a household name, taking the musical world by storm. She’s won multiple Grammys, and her debut album topped the charts in over 100 countries, but many people may not know that she has Tourette Syndrome.
Daniel Radcliffe
Daniel Radcliffe is best known for his role as Harry Potter, but he’s also an outspoken advocate for neurodivergent rights. He has Dyspraxia, a condition that affects coordination and fine motor skills, and he’s been open about how it’s impacted his life and career.
Fun fact: Radcliffe broke over 100 wands while filming the Harry Potter movies.
Anthony Hopkins
Anthony Hopkins is one of the most celebrated actors of our generation, and he’s Autistic. He’s won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and three BAFTAs, making him the first openly autistic person to do so. Hopkins received his diagnosis in his late 70s.
Florence Welch
Florence Welch, the frontwoman of the band Florence + The Machine, has spoken openly about her experience with Dyspraxia and Dyslexia, which she was diagnosed with as a child. Welch attributes her neurodivergence to her success, commenting, “The fact that I work in a creative industry probably helps. We dyspraxics think in a different way,” and that she’s “very proud to be dyspraxic.”
Lewis Capaldi
Lewis Capaldi, a Scottish singer-songwriter, shot to fame with his single ‘Someone You Loved.’ Capaldi has also been open about his experience with his recent Tourette Syndrome diagnosis, recently saying in an interview, “sometimes you feel you are alone in these things, and it is nice to just see that you are not so isolated in all this stuff”.
Victoria Pedretti
And last but not least, Victoria Pedretti. Best known for her roles in ‘The Haunting of Hill House,’ ‘The Haunting of Bly Manor,’ and ‘You,’ Pedretti has ADHD, which she says has been both a challenge and a blessing throughout her career. She attributes her ability to quickly memorise lines and her high energy on set to her neurodivergence.
