Well, it’s been a long, long wait, but The Cure has finally gifted us with Songs of a Lost World, their first album in sixteen years. The goth legends are back, and it’s like they never left.
Recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales, frontman Robert Smith wrote and arranged the album himself, handling production duties with Paul Corkett. The lineup includes the usual suspects: Smith on vocals and guitar, with Simon Gallup on bass, Jason Cooper on drums, Roger O’Donnell on keyboard, and Reeves Gabrels on guitar.
True to form, the artwork is pure Cure, featuring Bagatelle, a 1975 sculpture by Janez Pirnat. Long-time collaborator Andy Vella handled the cover’s design, giving it that timeless, eerie feel.
The band gave fans an extra treat with a rare performance at Troxy in London, streaming the whole thing live on YouTube for everyone who couldn’t be there. They played Songs of a Lost World in full and then launched into a set of crowd favourites like Just Like Heaven, Lullaby, Lovesong, A Forest, and Boys Don’t Cry. Catch the full show below:
