I recently attended the Tails and Tornadoes Furry Convention (TTFC) with my neurodivergent daughter. I was a little leery of being in a crowded, strange place for 3 days. However, what happened was a magical mix of acceptance and whimsical artistic fun. Instead of showcasing one artist, I decided that this entire section of artistry deserved a comprehensive article. A furry convention is full of art in all forms and was a magnet for every type of neurodivergent or otherwise “unruly” (as defined by Unruly Folks and not as in “misbehaving”) individuals.
The Tails and Tornadoes Furry Convention showcased an impressive variety of artists, each contributing their unique talents to celebrate the creativity of the furry community. The Artist Alley and Dealers Den are filled with diverse vendors ranging from traditional illustrators to multimedia creators. Luthien Nightwolf, one of the featured artists, brings a fantasy touch to her work, blending art nouveau with natural motifs to create captivating character portraits and magical scenes. Her use of mixed media—like Copic markers, colored pencils, and even glitter—adds a vibrant texture to her creations, which made her a standout at the convention.
Other artists included Lucky Jo Rabbit, known for their gothic and junkyard punk illustrations, and Presentable Microwave, a newcomer focusing on character creation. SPET’s Shop blends edgy and cute styles through comics and 3D artwork, while Skoryx Studios, a digital artist and biologist, incorporates a love for nature and birds into cartoony designs.
In addition to visual artists, the convention highlighted other creative talents, such as Citrine Husky, a blind musician who brings his multi-instrumental talents to the furry community, and Finn the Panther, a content creator who educates others about the furry fandom through video and podcasts.
This celebration of art and individuality is deeply embedded in the inclusive atmosphere of the convention. Attendees, especially neurodivergent individuals, benefit from disability accommodations, such as quiet rooms and badges that specify if the individual has certain needs or desires regarding touch and interaction, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and supported while immersing themselves in the creative spirit of the event. Tails and Tornadoes is more than just an art showcase—it’s a place where people can truly express who they are.
