What’s New

You still dig, sell what you find, upgrade your gear and keep digging. Around that, there’s a new plot of land and a new premise, plus new terrain types, tools, hidden items and underground secrets. The developers say they reviewed comments and requests from players of the first game and incorporated that feedback into this one.

Under the hood, Vienna studio Mi’pu’mi Games has rebuilt the code from the ground up so it runs more smoothly, and the original’s solo developer is still on the project, now with a team behind him.

From Holiday Project to a Million Copies

The first game started as a holiday project, made in a few weeks by one developer. It launched on Steam in February 2025 for US$4.99, sold itself as costing about as much as a coffee, went viral on social media, climbed into Steam’s top 30 and has now sold over a million copies.

The team rebuilding it for the sequel has worked on Alan Wake 2, Control, HITMAN and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which is a lot of AAA experience pointed at one back garden. The digging and voxel tech also have their own history, coming from an early version of the game Solarpunk.

Side Quest How Deep Is the Deepest Hole Ever Dug? Optional

The Kola Superdeep Borehole in Russia’s far north-west reached 12,262 metres in 1989, the deepest hole humans have ever drilled. It’s only about 23 centimetres wide, and the rock at the bottom turned out to be far hotter than expected, which is a big part of why the drilling stopped.
