Skyblivion’s been cooking for 13 years, and even with an official Oblivion remake on the way, they’re still standing tall — sword in hand, lore in heart, and zero bitterness in sight.
While the internet collectively tries not to scream “IT’S HAPPENING” into the void, the team behind the long-running Skyblivion mod is out here showing everyone how to be legends.
After years — 13 years, to be exact — of painstakingly rebuilding The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion inside Skyrim’s engine, the Skyblivion crew is now staring down the release of a rumoured-to-be-very-real official remake from Bethesda and Microsoft. And their response? A masterclass in maturity and fandom-fuelled joy.
“As dedicated Elder Scrolls fans, we are incredibly excited by this prospect and sincerely hope the information proves accurate,” said the Skyblivion team in a new statement.
Not only are they hyped for the remaster, which is reportedly launching any day now with Unreal Engine 5 visuals and quality-of-life updates, but they’re also welcoming it with open arms. According to them, both projects can totally coexist, and “players will be the true winners” when they get to experience both a community-driven reimagining and a fancy official version.
And they’re not wrong. While the official remake looks set to give console players a shiny, accessible way back to Cyrodiil, Skyblivion offers a nostalgic trip for modding diehards — one shaped by love, persistence, and a lot of late-night caffeine.
“This changes nothing for me,” said project lead Rebelzize earlier this week. “I have all love and no hate.”
Honestly? That might be the most wholesome response in all of Tamriel.
So, what do we actually know about this mysterious Oblivion remake?
Well, it’s definitely a thing. The leaks are coming from basically everywhere — from Xbox support chats to reliable sources like Jez Corden, Jeff Grubb, and Eurogamer, who confirmed the files are real and currently hosted on Virtuos’ servers. (Virtuos, being the studio also involved in the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake.)
The current whispers suggest a shadow drop as early as April 21, complete with:
- Unreal Engine 5 visuals (which explains why it looks so damn crisp)
- A simplified HUD and updated sneak/archery systems
- Less rage-inducing stamina mechanics
- And maybe, just maybe — less nightmare-inducing facial animations (we’re begging)

And Skyblivion?
Still aiming for a 2025 release, still PC-only, and still being built with all the weird modding magic that makes Elder Scrolls fans some of the most dedicated people on the planet. The devs promise it’ll offer a different flavour of nostalgia — one shaped by Skyrim’s familiar mechanics, modder creativity, and pure passion.
TL;DR:
- Oblivion remake leaks? Real.
- Skyblivion team? Unbothered and full of love.
- Players? About to be very spoiled.
Whether you’re a lore nerd, a stealth archer in denial, or just someone who spent too many hours yelling, “STOP RIGHT THERE, CRIMINAL SCUM,” it’s a damn good time to be an Elder Scrolls fan.
