A four-piece wrecking crew from Austin, TX, are here to chew bubblegum, spit fireball, and shred guitars. And they’re all out of bubblegum.
The Hype Is Real (And Loud)
Every once in a while, a band barrels in with so much feral energy that the music press loses its collective mind. Enter Die Spitz. Austin natives, childhood besties, and self-proclaimed chaos merchants, who just dropped their debut album, Something to Consume, today via Third Man Records.
They’ve already been hailed as “the most exciting new rock band on the planet” (NME) and “future superstars” (Kerrang!), which is music critic speak for: if you don’t get on board now, you’ll be lying about it later.
Something to Consume Is Exactly That
The record’s 11 tracks swing from snarling punk to dreamy, doomy rock with the kind of technical bite that makes you forget this band only formed in 2022.
Highlights? Take your pick:
- ‘Pop Punk Anthem (Sorry for the Delay)’ – a love song and possession spell combo.
- ‘Throw Yourself to the Sword’ – a riff-heavy battering ram.
- ‘Punishers’ – self-explanatory.
- And fresh today, ‘Riding With My Girls’ – an ode to friendship and feminine energy, backed by a Bita Ghassemi–directed video.
The whole thing was sharpened up by producer Will Yip (Turnstile, Mannequin Pussy), who clearly saw the fire and pointed the flamethrower in the right direction.
Born in Fireball and Nirvana Covers
Die Spitz are childhood conspirators. Vocalist/guitarists Ava Schrobilgen and Eleanor Livingston met in preschool, dragged Kate Halter (who literally learned bass just to join) into the fold in middle school, and sealed the deal with Chloe De St. Aubin over a late-night screening of The Dirt.
Their first gigs mashed originals with covers of PJ Harvey, Mudhoney, and Nirvana, but Something to Consume is their own beast: fierce, weird, and messy in the most deliberate way.
The Live Show? A Riot
Die Spitz are currently touring with Viagra Boys, with a full headline run next month. Their gigs have a reputation for cartwheels, rafters, and solos while crowdsurfing. Think of it as a cardio class, but instead of endorphins, you leave with bruises and a renewed will to fight capitalism.
Most dates are already sold out, so if you manage to score a ticket, cancel your plans and bring a helmet.
TL;DR
- Debut album Something to Consume out now on Third Man Records
- New video for ‘Riding With My Girls’ streaming today
- Produced by Will Yip (Turnstile, Mannequin Pussy)
- Die Spitz = Austin’s fiercest export since queso
- Currently on tour with Viagra Boys, headline run in October–November
Stay unruly.
