Stormzy and adidas are taking their game-changing #Merky FC initiative to the next level, evolving it from an annual program into a year-round platform designed to create lasting employment opportunities for young people of UK Black Heritage in the football industry.
Marking the third year of the project, this new chapter builds on two years of success, which has already placed 63 young people in football roles—39 of which have turned into long-term gigs. Now, with the new online platform, the initiative aims to provide even more opportunities, resources, and networking for those aspiring to make their mark off the pitch.
A year-round mission for change
The #Merky FC platform will now offer continuous support, including job postings, career advice, and networking events. Whether applying for your first role or already part of the program, there’s something for everyone.
In collaboration with recruitment partner DIVERSE, the platform is expanding its reach, with plans for exclusive in-person events at #Merky FC HQ in Croydon—a community space that’s already hosted thousands of young people for events and training.
“This is about equity in football,” comments Steve Marks, Senior Director of Brand Communications at adidas. “We’re proud that many recruits are staying beyond their initial placements—it shows the impact of this program.”
Breaking barriers, building futures
Since its launch in 2022, #Merky FC has seen a massive 273% rise in applications. Partnering with 25 big names in football, from Manchester United to Sky Sports, the initiative has successfully created a pipeline of opportunities for young talent from Black communities.
Tobi Ogundipe, founder of DIVERSE, highlights the significance: “These young people are now the future faces of the industry, inspiring others to follow their lead. It’s incredible to see what happens when the right doors are opened.”
