Hold on to your handbook for the recently deceased – Beetlejuice 3 might be crawling out of the grave. Warner Bros. heads Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy have confirmed that a third film in the Beetlejuice saga is in development. While nothing’s signed in blood just yet, the ink is “imminently” drying on the deals, according to De Luca. So yes, technically, it’s not official-official, but the ghost with the most seems to be sticking around for a little longer.
Following the wild success of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which raked in $451 million globally and scored a solid enough 75% on Rotten Tomatoes, Warner Bros. is officially leaning into the spooky nostalgia. The sequel had Jenna Ortega taking the reins as Astrid, daughter of goth icon Lydia Deetz (played once again by the ageless wonder Winona Ryder) and featured enough quirky chaos to satisfy both new fans and the original cult following.
We won’t lie. While the sequel didn’t hit quite as hard as the 1988 classic (what could?), there was a lot to love. And maybe even more to want.
Like, for starters, more Lydia. We got flashes of the girl we all saw ourselves in growing up, but now we’re hungry for a full-blown Lydia redemption. Give us older, wiser Lydia Deetz reclaiming her power, clawing her way through anxiety and trauma, and serving up zero-fucks goth mama energy.
Because if Beetlejuice 3 is going to happen, it can’t just be more hijinks and nostalgia-fuel. It needs a heart. It needs a story. It can’t feel like an unnecessary afterthought.
WB also teased other nostalgic projects, including a new Matrix from Drew Goddard, fresh Gremlins and Goonies entries from Chris Columbus, and a Gollum film directed by Andy Serkis. So yes, 2025 might just be the year of the millennial movie multiverse. Is that a good thing? I’m not so sure. I’m scared. But let’s hope for the best, eh?
But for us spooky kids? All eyes are on Beetlejuice 3. No word yet on casting, timeline, or what chaos Beetlejuice might unleash this time, but here’s hoping Lydia finally gets the arc she deserves.
