Hold onto your wigs because we’ve got news that’ll snatch ’em clean off: Trixie Mattel is taking a much-needed breather from the drag scene. Yep, you heard it right. Our beloved queen is stepping back for a “three or four month sabbatical” starting July, and she’s ghosting social media too.
In a candid chat with Elle, Trixie spilled the tea on her upcoming hiatus. She’s been running at full throttle for years, and now it’s time to slow things down. “The Trixie we know, the Trixie that is on every YouTube video, on every show, and every TV show, I just can’t sustain that anymore,” she confessed. “This giant rat wheel that I’ve been running on, I need to pull back a lot.”
Trixie first dazzled us on RuPaul’s Drag Race season seven and kept us well-fed on Drag Race All Stars season three. Since then, she has continued to serve, releasing four studio albums, embarking on six headlining tours, and hosting six seasons of The Pit Stop. Then there’s Trixie Cosmetics, her stint as a judge on Queen of the Universe, and her own docu-series, Trixie Motel.
With Katya, her infamous partner in crime, Trixie has hosted eight seasons of UNHhhh, over 150 episodes of their podcast The Bald and the Beautiful, starred in Netflix’s I Like to Watch, toured the globe (where we got to witness their debauchery, in the sexy, sweaty, flesh), and released two books. W o w.
But now, Trixie is ready for some downtime. “I want a family, and I want a life, and I haven’t really had that,” she shared. She even joked about growing a beard during her break. “Besides, the other drag queens have been waiting for me to take my high heel off their throats for years. They love it when I get a sick day. Those fucking bitches love it.”
In an extra nugget of info from The Zach Sang Show, Trixie revealed that this would be her first proper break and that she’s keen on finding a better work-life balance. She plans to spend some of her time exploring Alaska.
And if you’re missing your Trixie fix, don’t worry. The second season of Trixie Motel, subtitled Drag Me Home, premiered on the 1st of June via Max. You can check out the trailer below to get your fill of Trixie Mother Magic.
So, here’s to Trixie taking the time she needs and hopefully coming back refreshed and ready to slay again—at a pace that works for her. We’re rooting for you, Trixie!
