Forge of the Fae, a Celtic-inspired pixel art video game, has just gone live on Kickstarter, and the trailer has already got me invested. If you’ve got a soft spot for classic JRPGs, you’re going to want to check this out.
Developed by the Datadyne team, Forge of the Fae transports you to a world reminiscent of 1800s Ireland but with heaps of steampunk tech and ancient magic. The game focused on the conflict between humans and fae, all while an ancient power awakens in the shadows. You play as Fiora, a young inventor who’ll have your choices shaping the entire narrative. Hey, no pressure. Just pure adventure.
Expect your classic turn-based combat and strategic systems like the “ARC Crystal System” and “Adrenaline” that let you customise spells and abilities. There’s a pinch of puzzle-solving peppered between combat, and you are handsomely rewarded with secret lore and powerful items when you beat them.
The Kickstarter campaign lets early backers get a 30% discount (love that), but the real draw is the exclusive rewards. Ever wanted to help design a character in a game? Well, now’s your chance! There are Creator Bundles where you can collaborate with the dev team to create NPCs, enemies, and game elements like Fae Whispers. There’s even a limited-edition physical art book in the works for top-tier backers. Very nice.
