It’s official: the UK is hosting Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool, and we couldn’t be more excited! Graham Norton confirmed the news on BBC’s The One Show, revealing that the final would be held at Liverpool Arena on 13th May. The announcement is massive for the city of Liverpool, and we can’t wait to see what they’ve got up their sleeves!
Tim Davie, BBC director-general, has hailed Liverpool as the “undisputed capital of pop music”, remarking: “I know the people of Liverpool will welcome Europe, and the rest of the world, with open arms, and in partnership we will create something truly special.” We couldn’t agree more! Liverpool is known for its rich musical history, and we can’t think of a better place to host Eurovision 2023.
Kalush Orchestra, who won Eurovision in 2022 for Ukraine, said they are ‘very pleased that next year’s Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Liverpool’.
They added: “Although we are sad that next year’s competition cannot take place in our homeland, we know that the people of Liverpool will be warm hosts, and the organisers will be able to add a real Ukrainian flavour to Eurovision 2023 in this city.”
