The Skin Stapler Is Already Causing Problems (Good Ones)

A detective story where "Ew" coats every surface.

If ya fancy being dropped into a grimy VHS you found behind a servo, I think you might to give The Skin Stapler a crack.

Announced by Assemble Entertainment and solo dev Tainted Pact Games, this is a neon-lit, PSX-style grindhouse detective horror adventure heading to PC via Steam in 2026. You play Detective Dick Slater, a cop with a bad temper, a worse past, and a city that looks like it’s been sweating since 1987.

The case starts ugly and then promptly gets uglier, with stitched flesh, distorted audio tapes, and a killer going by The Skin Stapler, which is not subtle, and that’s kind of the point.

Also, the demo’s already doing laps. The announcement says it’s trending in itch.io’s horror category, sitting on a 96% score on Steam, and it’s been picked up for full YouTube playthroughs by MoistCr1TiKaL and CaseOh. That’s the sort of early buzz that turns into “everyone’s talking about this, and I’m late” overnight. Get on it.

What’s The Situation Here?

Carrion City is described as an 80s fever dream, and everyone looks guilty even when they’re probably just buying a kebab. It’s noir, but not the classy trenchcoat noir. More like “my shoes are sticky and I regret everything” noir.

The story follows Slater trying to keep his grip while chasing a killer who leaves grotesque displays and those taunting tapes you absolutely should not listen to alone. The game also shifts into other characters’ perspectives as things spiral outward, which is always a fun little horror trick because it means you’re never fully settled. Just vibes and dread and then, surprise, you’re someone else now.

Why People Are Clicking With The Demo

The devs are pitching this as a short, focused horror experience built to be finished in one sitting, with atmosphere doing the heavy lifting. That’s a big win for anyone who loves horror but doesn’t have the emotional bandwidth for a 40-hour slow descent into despair. ADHD’ers, rejoice!

They’re also leaning hard into PSX-style visuals and grindhouse slasher energy, with that neon decay look that makes everything feel slightly cursed. If you’ve ever said “I want a horror game that looks like it was filmed on a haunted camcorder” out loud, congratulations, the universe heard you.

Where Can We Play It?

It’s coming to PC via Steam, and there’s a playable demo available now. So you can absolutely ruin your own evening worldwide. Love that for us.
