- 0 combat
- 30+ recipes to cook
- 1 developer (and nine cats)
- 23 Oct Early Access
Under Canopies, the cosy first-person sim about living quietly in the woods that we first looked at back in June, now has a date. It arrives in Steam Early Access on 23 October. It’s made by Roberto Ortiz, a game programmer in Mexico who works under the name Novemtails, “alongside nine cats”, and it’s published by Assemble Entertainment, the team behind Sticky Business and Roadwarden.
A Gentler Kind of Survival

There’s no combat and no constant threat hanging over you. You wander through the forest, gather materials, and build a home of your own, then fill it with furniture, decorations and useful bits you’ve crafted yourself. You also grow and harvest crops, collect ingredients from the wild and cook your way through more than 30 recipes, and look after chickens and sheep, or keep bees. As the Steam page puts it, the only enemy is inefficiency.
Side Quest How Do Bees Make Honey?
Bees collect nectar from flowers and carry it home in a special stomach, where enzymes start breaking down the sugars. Back at the hive, they pass it into wax cells and fan it with their wings until most of the water evaporates, then seal the thick, finished honey under a wax cap. You can read more about how honey is made.
Point and Shoot
Wildlife photography is a big part of the game. Animals are part of everyday life in the woods, and as you study the creatures around you, you document your discoveries and fill a photo album with rarer finds.
