The ever-provocative KING 810 has just unveiled their latest venture: an ambitious film and EP project titled under the black rainbow. This isn’t just a new collection of tracks—it’s a fully-fledged episodic film series paired with a gripping soundtrack. The rollout has already begun, with the EP hitting digital streaming platforms on July 12th. You can pre-save it now or snag it on CD, vinyl, and other exclusive bundles here.
If you thought their 2023 ‘follow my tears‘ EP was intense, buckle up because ‘under the black rainbow‘ takes it to another level. This project is the band’s most ambitious to date, blending their love of storytelling, music, and visual arts. David Gunn, Eugene Gill, and their crew didn’t just write and perform these tracks; they independently funded, wrote, directed, produced, filmed, acted, edited, and distributed the entire film series. Talk about DIY spirit!
The narrative kicks off when KING 810 stumbles upon an enchanted instrument once owned by the angelic priest, King Melchizedek. Intrigued? You should be.
David Gunn explains the project with his signature introspection: “I don’t recall formulating ‘under the black rainbow’ in a single flash of inspiration. More so it was an accumulative effort being a writer of stories, of poetry, of music, and a director of those most trite and stale things called music videos. From these creative vocations all it took then was to listen for an idea to come through. The idea always has to be new, not only to us but to all. Not only novel and unique, but something challenging that may lie just beyond our perceived abilities. So, this project is our attempt at that. To tell yet another story.”
The EP’s lead single, ‘glow,’ delves into the tale of two young, uncultured lovers from rural America. Amidst a world of synthetic facades, they find comfort in their anonymity. As Gunn puts it, “Easy to hide inside a world where we don’t glow…”
The music video for ‘glow’ is already out, and it’s a visual feast that takes you deeper into the mysterious, musical world of ‘under the black rainbow’. The storyline of the film series unfolds over several parts, starting with ‘monday∴day of moon,’ where our heroes encounter an enchanted antique piano that defies all senses. In ‘tuesday,’ the journey continues as they leave the piano behind, only to be drawn back by a strange illness and an enticing summoning. Part three, the music video for ‘glow,’ explores the eerie world inside the enchanted instrument.
