Saturday, October 8, is National Bookshop Day! This annual campaign, organised by the Booksellers Association, encourages consumers to shop at their local bookshop to support their high street. In light of recent events, supporting your local bookshop has never been more critical. Here are some ways you can do just that:
1) Shop local and buy books! This one is self-explanatory—if you want to support your local bookshop, purchasing books from them is the best way to do it. So try to visit your local bookshop on Saturday, October 8 and pick up a new read (or two, or three…). Not only will you support a small business, but you’ll also discover some great new books in the process. Win-win!
2) Spread the word. Please help get the word out about National Bookshop Day by telling your friends and family about it. Use social media to share your favourite photos of your local bookshop and use the hashtag #NationalBookshopDay or #BookshopDay. The more people who know about it, the better!
3) Leave a review. Have you recently read a book from your local bookshop that you loved? Be sure to leave a positive review online—this helps other potential customers discover great new reads and lets the world know you support your local bookshops. Every little bit helps!
Why Choose Bookshops?
Local bookshops are essential to the community and offer a unique shopping experience you can’t get from online retailers or large chain stores. When you shop at a local bookshop, you support a small business owner and local jobs for your community. You’re also more likely to find personalised recommendations and a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere—something hard to come by these days.
Why not make a day of it this Saturday and treat yourself to a new book (or two)? It’s a great way to show your support for small businesses—and you might find your new favourite read in the process. Happy National Bookshop Day!
