The grid is pulsing again — and this time, it’s set to a soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails. Disney just dropped the first taste of TRON: Ares (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), and we’re not being dramatic when we say: the vibes are immaculate. The album officially releases on September 19, marking the band’s first official film score under the Nine Inch Nails name.
A new era of TRON
TRON’s always been that franchise. Visually ahead of its time. Weirdly spiritual. Neon-soaked. Now with TRON: Ares, we’re getting a musical evolution to match: a full original score by Nine Inch Nails, aka Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, the duo behind everything from The Social Network to Watchmen (and literal Oscar, GRAMMY®, and Golden Globe winners).
They’ve done soundtracks before, just never under the NIN name. So this one? It’s different. It’s dirty and digital, full of synthetic dread, analog melancholy, and that unmistakable NIN churn.
The first single, ‘As Alive As You Need Me To Be’, dropped on July 19 alongside the new TRON: Ares trailer, and it’s a beautiful glitchy panic attack of a track. We’ve got shimmering synths, distant screams, existential lyrics, and an industrial heartbeat pounding under it all. Classic NIN. Welcome back. We missed you.
