Enter Shikari Will Go Dormant at the End of 2027, and There’s No World Tour

The band say they’re not splitting up, but they have nothing planned beyond 2027, and next year will be a celebration.

Enter Shikari have announced they’ll go dormant at the end of 2027. In a statement shared today, the band said that as of 31 December 2027, they “will fall dormant as a recording and performing entity”, and that the dormancy “may eventually end with an eruption back into activity, or may end with extinction. We have no idea which.”

Why Now

The band, Rou, Rob, Rory and Chris, say they’re no longer the same kids who made their debut album, and that their priorities and capacities have changed. They talk about how hard it can be to make art that doesn’t fit neatly into a box, the pressures of the modern music industry, and the toll that “coming up with the goods” has taken on their mental health. Those conversations had started before Rou’s recent illness, which made them more pressing.

They don’t think they’re “splitting up”, but they don’t have anything planned beyond 2027. So, for all intents and purposes, they pretty much are.

Side Quest What’s the Difference Between a Dormant and an Extinct Volcano? Optional

A dormant volcano hasn’t erupted in a long time but is expected to erupt again someday, while an extinct volcano isn’t expected to erupt ever again. That’s exactly the line Enter Shikari are walking with their “eruption” or “extinction” wording. You can read more about how volcanoes are classified.

What Happens in 2027

Next year will be a celebration of the band. 2027 marks 20 years since Take To The Skies, 10 years since The Spark and 15 years since A Flash Flood Of Colour, and the band have been revisiting the original Take To The Skies multitracks, with more news promised soon.

The bad news for us is that there’s no world tour. The band say they’ll hopefully play some of their favourite places “one last time”, but they’re not sure how feasible that is yet, so an Australian goodbye isn’t guaranteed.

In the meantime, there’s their UK arena tour this November. “If that ends up being the last time some people see us, we want to make it special,” the band said.

Dormant still leaves the door open, and with these four, an eruption feels very on-brand.
