The fantastic Sycco, a 22-year-old First Nations singer-songwriter and producer, has just released her latest single, titled ‘Monkey Madness,’.
Sycco shared a bit about the track’s creation: “I wrote ‘Monkey Madness’ after having a few drinks with my friends Yari (my housemate) and Paddy (my drummer), and we decided to go to my studio that I had set up in my garage. We made it just for fun and were sampling our voices to sound like synths, which are still in there. When Jeremy [Chrome Sparks] and I were working on the album, I showed him ‘Monkey Madness’ and he instantly said we had to work on it. It didn’t change too much from the original demo. I’m so keen to play this live. I want people to open the pit!”
The album Zorb, dropping on August 23rd, promises to be a kaleidoscopic journey. Sycco’s already teased us with tracks like ‘Touching and Talking‘ and ‘I’d Love To Tell You,’ both of which hint at the eclectic mix of sounds and emotions packed into this record.
For the past three years, Sycco’s been living in a sharehouse in Brisbane with a group of mates who have become her chosen family. This scrappy, love-filled environment, affectionately dubbed “the Zorb,” is where she found the inspiration for her album. It’s a sonic diary of first loves, heartbreaks, and the kind of friendships that get you through it all.
Sycco didn’t go it alone on this one. She penned and produced every track, collaborating with big names like Chrome Sparks, Flume, Mallrat, Banoffee, and Styalz Fuego. Together, they’ve crafted an album that feels like a big, warm hug set to a synth-driven, psychedelic pop soundtrack.
