Wander Stars, the upcoming genre-bending anime-inspired RPG from indie studio Paper Castle Games, has officially shifted its release date to September 19, giving the dev team more time to implement changes based on community feedback.
So if you were dusting off your anime battle stances and getting your turn-based tactics brain warmed up for August, maybe hold that pose just a little longer.
It’s not bad news, promise
According to a new update from publisher Fellow Traveller, a recent Open Beta with community members unearthed some very welcome constructive feedback. Instead of ignoring it or speed-running a patch job, the devs have opted to take their time and actually do things properly. (Imagine! Actual polish!)
“After reviewing it, the Paper Castle team want to take the time to implement several changes that will make the game even better,” the update reads.
That means:
- New release date is locked for September 19
- Wander Stars will now launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch simultaneously
Wait, what is Wander Stars again?
If you’ve somehow missed it, Wander Stars is a narrative-driven RPG with a super fresh mechanic: players build their own attacks using a combination of words.
You play as Ryo, a hot-headed anime protagonist stereotype, and team up with Toru, a chill martial artist with mysterious vibes. Together, you’re chasing pieces of the “Wanderstar” and punching your way through a world full of bizarre villains and emotional revelations.
TL;DR
- Wander Stars is now launching September 19, 2025
- Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch
- The delay is so devs can improve the game based on Open Beta feedback
Wander Stars looks too good to be rushed, and a dev team that actually listens to their players? That’s a rare creature in the wild.
We’ll be back with a full review in September once the build lands, but for now: deep breath, strike a pose, and hang tight. Your anime RPG dreams are still coming. Just a little later than planned.
Stay unruly.
